Our parish
St Anthony the Great is a bilingual Orthodox community in the centre of Newcastle, offering a welcoming spiritual home and traditional worship.
The Greek Orthodox Community of St Anthony the Great serves Orthodox Christians across the North East of England. We worship at St John the Baptist Church in the centre of Newcastle, one of the oldest churches in the city. Our members come from Greece, Cyprus and many other countries, as well as from Britain. We belong to the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain, under the Ecumenical Patriarchate. [Confirm: when the parish was founded, and anything you would like to say about its early years.]
Our patron saint: St Anthony the Great
Known in the Orthodox Church as Anthony the Great or the Father of Monasticism, he lived to the remarkable age of 105 (c. 251 – 356 AD). His feast day is celebrated on 17 January.
