Sponsors
Everyone entering the Church has a sponsor (godparent), an Orthodox Christian who prays for them and supports them. The priest can help you find one.
The usual path
What is a catechumen?
catechumen is someone preparing to enter the Orthodox Church. The word comes from the Greek for "one who is being instructed". Catechumens attend services, learn the faith and grow in prayer, guided by the priest.
First, come to services, talk with the priest and join our classes. When you are ready, the priest will make you a catechumen with a short service of prayer. When he judges you ready, you are received into the Church through Holy Baptism and Chrismation. How someone already baptised in another Christian tradition is received is decided by the priest, following the guidance of our Archdiocese. There is no fixed timetable.
