Your first visit
Everything you need to know before you come. There is no need to book, and there is no dress code beyond modest clothing.
Language
Services are in Greek and English. [Confirm: Service books with both languages side by side are available at the entrance.]
Where
When
Divine Liturgy 12:30–2:15pm on the 2nd to 5th Sundays of the month. On the 1st Sunday we are in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
St John the Baptist Church, corner of Grainger Street and Westgate Road, Newcastle NE1 5JG.
What to expect
ARRIVING
When you come in, you will see people lighting candles and kissing the icons. You are welcome to do the same, or simply find a place and settle in. Many people stand for much of the service, but there are seats, and you may sit whenever you need to. No one will mind if you arrive after the service has begun.
DURING THE LITURGY
The Divine Liturgy is sung from beginning to end, in Greek and English. You do not need to know what to do. Feel free simply to watch, listen and pray. People make the sign of the cross and bow at different moments, and you may join in or not, as you wish.
HOLY COMMUNION
Holy Communion is received by Orthodox Christians who have prepared for it with prayer and fasting, and usually with confession. If you are not Orthodox, please do not come forward for Communion. At the end of the service everyone, Orthodox or not, is welcome to come forward to receive a piece of blessed bread (antidoron) from the priest.
AFTERWARDS
Join us for light refreshments in the community hall. Our priest is always glad to meet new visitors.

Parking
Central Station, NCP Fenkle Street, Times Square and Grainger Town car parks are all nearby. Regular members can apply for a Sunday parking permit.
By bus
By train and Metro
3–5 minutes’ walk from Newcastle Central Station. Monument Metro is about 6 minutes away.
Frequent stops on Westgate Road, Grainger Street and Neville Street.
